How to Help Those Affected by Disaster

We play in and help organize a softball league. But our responsibility to each other runs much deeper. Disaster by its very nature brings out the worst. It can also bring out the best in each of us.

As fires continue to rage across Southern California, wreaking havoc and leaving a charred landscape in its wake, we are faced with a crisis. How do we help those in need, including many who play in Synagogue Softball? Families, whose homes have been reduced to rubble by the Woolsey Fire (and beyond), are now just beginning to get a first glimpse into the destruction fire wrought. Many others are still figuring out housing, clothing and food details. While the Woolsey Fire brought out the worst of Mother Nature, our community has bound together, donating thousands upon thousands of clothes, supplies and goods for those now in need.

Officials, however, can no longer use supplies. They now need funds to help firefighters and those who have been displaced.

Our season will start soon and we will beginning sending out updates shortly. Meanwhile, please consider supporting these worthy organizations.

LAFD Foundation
Please consider a donation to one of the official nonprofit arms of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Your donation will assist the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation in their quest to purchase life critical hydration packs for firefighters, among other supplies. These hydration packs will help firefighters to remain alert, as they will be properly hydrated while on the fire line. In Los Angeles, all 3,400 firefighters may become involved in firefighting activities, not just those in the wild land urban interface. That’s why this program – and your donation – is so important. Please consider even a small gift.

The Jewish Federation
A donation to support our community’s institutions and individuals and families will go to a directed fund that allows us to all come together to give back to those organizations that have given us all so much and to support those who need our help. 100% of your gift will go directly to those who need it. We are doing all we can to make sure we move forward with the greatest possible speed to take critically-needed action to ensure our strength and security and make plans to rebuild the vibrant Jewish future we share. Your generosity is deeply appreciated.
